MLB: Fantasy Baseball Injury Report 8/31/21

Good Morning! Here is my daily fantasy baseball injury report. Throughout the season I will post daily content (and if not, I will give you a few days heads up that I’ll be absent). These injury reports are of those that were either scratched, removed, or placed on IL the previous day. If a player is reported as injured after 8am, their name appears on the NEXT days injury report. Yes, that does mean that the later games may have players who are put on an injury report a day late. I try to speculate on who will take the players place in the lineup/order/rotation based on depth charts and stats. This is just speculation; I am no god. Think of it as brainstorming with you, the fantasy owner, as a way to mitigate your loss. I do not update players health status. Once they are placed on here, they are out of sight and out of mind until they drop the designation and are playing in a game. Even then, if they are not fully in the game I will not comment. Thank you for giving my reports an opportunity and a look. I hope you found them helpful.

I have began posting fantasy football injury reports and content on my SubStack at: https://dailyfantasysporttakes.substack.com/p/coming-soon?r=pbjbn&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&utm_source=copy . It is free for the month of August.

Hitters

Cleveland Indians: Wilson Ramos (C) – I feel like you don’t see this too often in baseball, but Ramos suffered a torn ACL on Sunday against the Red Sox. Austin Hedges is the only traditional catcher on the roster left, and has been one of the best over the last week. He’s still hitting <.200 on the season.

Milwaukee Brewers: Willy Adames (SS) – After missing several days with a quad injury, Adames tried to return to action. He played in two games and went 1/8 before being benched once more on Monday with the injury. Luis Urias can start at SS with Jace Peterson at 3B. Urias is hitting .244 with 18 home runs and Peterson is going at a nice .278 clip on a 15/25 place with every day at bats.

San Francisco Giants: Tommy La Stella (2B/1B) – The veteran utility man was a late scratch on Monday with a side injury. Jason Vosler took his spot in the lineup as the 2B. Vosler is only hitting .178 in his limited looks. Wilmer Flores is ahead of Vosler in my opinion and should be given the looks in the lineup with his .248 and 16 home runs.

Tampa Bay Rays: Brett Phillips (LF/CF/RF) – The utility outfielder was injured at some point on Sunday after the game, being placed on the IL on Monday with a sprained ankle. With speed being a major portion of his game, it will take some time for his return. Manuel Margot is the utility outfielder above Phillips on the depth chart, hitting .254 this year on a near 15/15 pace at this point.

Washington Nationals: Alcides Escobar (SS/2B) – After fouling a ball off of his knee, Escobar left the game on Monday against the Phillies. The team did some tests and it was revealed that he is only dealing with a bruise. Adrian Sanchez is outpacing Luis Garcia at this point despite his low level of at bats. Sanchez is hitting .241, and is a career .259 hitter at the MLB level.

Pitchers

Boston Red Sox: Martin Perez (SP)/Matt Barnes (RP)/Josh Taylor (RP) – Both Perez and Barnes tested positive for COVID and will be out for a minimum of 10 days. Taylor was a close contact and will be tested until he comes back negative. Garrett Whitlock is a solid reliever in their bullpen that I shed some light on yesterday in my waivers post. He should see an increase in opportunities with all these relievers going out.

Detroit Tigers: Miguel Del Pozo (RP) – In a scary situation on Monday, Del Pozo was hit in the face by a line drive. He was evaluated and diagnosed with a concussion, needing stiches as well. There really aren’t many relievers on the Tigers with incredible rates who aren’t already known commodities.

San Francisco Giants: Alex Wood (SP/RP)/Johnny Cueto (SP) – Another day, another player testing positive for COVID. Wood tested positive for the virus and is experiencing symptoms, forcing him out for a minimum of 10 days. Cueto is also experiencing symptoms but hasn’t tested positive as of yet. Sammy Long has been utilized as a long reliever as of late, and can fill in with the rotation if necessary. Jose Quintana was also claimed off of waivers yesterday and the club may need to utilize him right away in a spot start.
