MLB: Fantasy Baseball Injury Report 9/6/21

Good Morning! Here is my daily fantasy baseball injury report. Throughout the season I will post daily content (and if not, I will give you a few days heads up that I’ll be absent). These injury reports are of those that were either scratched, removed, or placed on IL the previous day. If a player is reported as injured after 8am, their name appears on the NEXT days injury report. Yes, that does mean that the later games may have players who are put on an injury report a day late. I try to speculate on who will take the players place in the lineup/order/rotation based on depth charts and stats. This is just speculation; I am no god. Think of it as brainstorming with you, the fantasy owner, as a way to mitigate your loss. I do not update players health status. Once they are placed on here, they are out of sight and out of mind until they drop the designation and are playing in a game. Even then, if they are not fully in the game I will not comment. Thank you for giving my reports an opportunity and a look. I hope you found them helpful.

I have began posting fantasy football injury reports and content on my SubStack at: https://dailyfantasysporttakes.substack.com/p/coming-soon?r=pbjbn&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&utm_source=copy .

Hitters

Baltimore Orioles: Ryan Mountcastle (1B/LF)/Ramon Urias (SS/2B) – Due to a foul tip ricocheting off of his knee on Saturday, Mountcastle went 0/5 and then was held out of the lineup on Sunday. Urias did play against the Yankees however, and left midway through the contest with upper leg issues. DJ Stewart covered Mountcastle at DH, with his .205 average. There isn’t much in terms of depth in Baltimore. Jorge Mateo may be their best utility option and he will likely cover Urias at SS. Mateo has hit .257 this year, and could have put up 15/25 in a full season of everyday at bats.

Miami Marlins: Miguel Rojas (SS)/Jorge Alfaro (C/LF) – It was revealed on Sunday after the game against the Phillies that Alfaro is dealing with a knee injury. He was relegated third string behind Alex Jackson and Sandy Leon. They are a combined 45/280 (.161) with 6 home runs on the year. Rojas on the other hand struggled on Sunday. He went 0/4 at the plate before exiting with a trap injury, whether it was that or his performance is another thing entirely. Either Jazz Chisholm Jr moves over to SS and Isan Diaz or Joe Panik get to start, or Deven Marrero goes at SS. All three utility options are a combined 84/424 (.198) with 8 home runs.

Minnesota Twins: Miguel Sano (1B) – The big bodied power hitter was held out of the contest after colliding with Mike Zunino at the plate. Although Willians Astudillo went 0/4 at the plate on Saturday, he probably was the best bet to stick in the lineup. Astudillo has hit .246 this year with 7 home runs and has potential.

San Francisco Giants: Austin Slater (LF/CF/RF) – Following a collision with the wall on Saturday, Slater left the game and was placed into concussion protocol. On Sunday it was confirmed that he did indeed have a concussion and is out at least a week. The best three in the outfield at the moment are: Kris Bryant (LF)/Steven Duggar (CF)/Lamonte Wade Jr. (RF), but Mike Yastrzemski is going to start in CF or RF. He does not hit as well as the others though. Duggar has a .267, and Wade is hitting +.250 as well. But Yaz is going at .220, his fantasy value wanning.

Washington Nationals: Gerardo Parra (RF/LF)/Keibert Ruiz (C) – Both players have knee injuries, and neither of them have had a bat that deserves playing time either as of late. Parra has one hit in the last two weeks in his limited looks, resulting in an IL stint. Then you have Ruiz who is the future behind the plate and he has struggled with a sore knee. Andrew Stevenson is the utility option ahead of Parra in the outfield, and he has a .226 average this year. With Ruiz out, Riley Adams is a much better option to start than Alex Avila. Adams is nearly .100 points better at the plate.

Pitchers

Boston Red Sox: Hansel Robles (RP) – Although the reliever has pitched three consecutive scoreless appearances, he was pulled on Sunday with a lat injury. There aren’t really any lesser-known commodities in the Red Sox bullpen at the moment. I have sung the praises of Garrett Whitlock since the season began.

Chicago White Sox: Carlos Rodon (SP) – In a last-minute decision, Rodon had his start skipped this past weekend due to fatigue. Part of me wonders if the injuries to Lance Lynn and Lucas Giolito played a role in the extremely cautious approach. The team is running low on starting options with all of these injuries to key cogs. Reynaldo Lopez covered Rodon’s start, pitching 4 innings and allowing three runs.

New York Yankees: Jonathan Loasaiga (RP/SP) – The starter turned reliever was placed on the IL over the weekend with a rotator cuff injury. This follows his last appearance where he gave up a run, the first in nearly a month. Lucas Luetge has great rates this year but has not been given the ball in high leverage situations.
