MLB: Fantasy Baseball Injury Report 9/7/21

Good Morning! Here is my daily fantasy baseball injury report. Throughout the season I will post daily content (and if not, I will give you a few days heads up that I’ll be absent). These injury reports are of those that were either scratched, removed, or placed on IL the previous day. If a player is reported as injured after 8am, their name appears on the NEXT days injury report. Yes, that does mean that the later games may have players who are put on an injury report a day late. I try to speculate on who will take the players place in the lineup/order/rotation based on depth charts and stats. This is just speculation; I am no god. Think of it as brainstorming with you, the fantasy owner, as a way to mitigate your loss. I do not update players health status. Once they are placed on here, they are out of sight and out of mind until they drop the designation and are playing in a game. Even then, if they are not fully in the game I will not comment. Thank you for giving my reports an opportunity and a look. I hope you found them helpful.

I have began posting fantasy football injury reports and content on my SubStack at: https://dailyfantasysporttakes.substack.com/p/coming-soon?r=pbjbn&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&utm_source=copy .

Hitters

Baltimore Orioles: Trey Mancini (RF/1B) – The power hitter was held out of the contest on Monday with a foot injury after being hit by a pitch. The squad played musical chairs with the lineup to cover Trey at 1B, by putting Ryan Mountcastle there and starting Ryan McKenna in CF. McKenna has only hit .183 this year.

San Francisco Giants: Kris Bryant (1B/3B/LF/CF/RF)/Mike Yastrzemski (RF/CF) – Prior to the game on Monday, Yaztrzemski was held out of the tilt with an illness. It’s worth noting that they have said it is not COVID, but the squad has had cases over the last few weeks. Bryant on the other hand left midway through the game with a wrist issue, after going 1 for 4 at the plate. The team started Steven Duggar (LF)/Mauricio Dubon (CF) and Lamonte Wade Jr. covered Bryant in (RF). Duggar is hitting .270, and Wade is going at a .253 pace with 30+ home runs if he had every day at bats.

Tampa Bay Rays: Francisco Mejia (C) – The yin to the yang of the Tampa Rays catcher corps, Mejia couldn’t be more the opposite of Mike Zunino if you tried. Mejia is a contact hitter, and Zunino is a power hitter that either hits home runs or strikes out. Francisco struggled on Monday going 0 for 3 at the plate before being pulled with a bruised shoulder. This gives the plate to Zunino completely, who has 27 home runs and if he had every day at bats, he could easily surpass 40.

Toronto Blue Jays: George Springer (CF) – Only a week or so since returning from a knee injury, Springer was pulled from the game on Sunday after fouling a ball off of his leg. The team was trying to limit the amount of work George had to put in by placing him at DH on the day, but it did not keep him healthy. Randal Grichuk and Jarrod Dyson are the utility men when it comes to the CF role, and are not similar in the least. Grichuk has 21 home runs, and Dyson would be on pace for 30 stolen bases if he had every day at bats.

Pitchers

Baltimore Orioles: Jorge Lopez (RP/SP) – The starter turned reliever got through one batter in his appearance on Monday prior to being pulled with an ankle injury. Jorge did get credited with the hold for his efforts though. Tyler Wells is in a similar boat as a converted starter, but has great rates and could see an uptick in looks.

Boston Red Sox: Nick Pivetta (SP) – An injury situation I missed yesterday, Pivetta had his start skipped on Sunday after being placed into COVID protocol. Kutter Crawford and John Schreiber split the start and struggled, losing the game. I would give the ball to Garrett Richards next time around for the spot start if the squad wants to win.

Detroit Tigers: Joe Jimenez (RP) – Another day, another player committed to the COVID protocol list. Jimenez tested positive for the virus and will be out for at least 10 days. There really aren’t many great relievers in the Detroit bullpen who don’t get opportunities.

Houston Astros: Ryan Pressly (RP) – After not pitching for three days, the squad revealed that Pressly has been on the mend with a “sore arm”. It is odd that it took that long for the team to say he was dealing with something, and he really only pitched once in the last week overall. Kendall Graveman will see more opportunities if Pressly is out any longer.

Toronto Blue Jays: Hyun Jin Ryu (SP) – For Sundays start, Ryu was on a pitch count. He was able to get through six scoreless innings before reaching the 80 pitches that he was allowed to toss. Nate Pearson has just been recalled this last week and was given two appearances where he did pretty solid. I wouldn’t be surprised if he took over a start for Ryu or at the very least finished one if Ryu stays on a pitch count.
